L’essentiel All Natural Beeswax – Dark 200g

$36.00

All natural antiquing beeswax specifically formulated in Australia for use over porous decorative furniture paints such as chalk paint, milk paint and raw wood.

The dark wax has all natural pigments added and is used to give an antiqued finish. Dark wax can be applied directly on to raw wood or unsealed paints for a dark antiquing effect, when applied in this manner the dark will soak into the surface and give a permanent darkened finish. Alternatively you may apply a thin coat of clear wax first before applying the dark wax, this provides a barrier to prevent the dark wax from soaking in as intensely and provides control for ease of use. Using clear wax before applying dark wax often results in a much subtler antiquing finish as the clear wax acts as a barrier preventing large amounts of the dark wax soaking into the surface, and can be used as an ‘eraser’ for removing dark wax is used in this order. Test your choice of either of the above methods on a small inconspicuous area to ensure the result is as desired.

Rub/work small amounts into the surface as required working in sections using a lint free white rag or waxing brush, allow product to soak into the surface for 5-10 minutes before gently wiping the excess away. Being all natural this wax finish contains no drying agents or solvents and is thus skin safe and has a long ‘open’ time or period of workability making it both user friendly and environmentally safe. The wax should touch dry within 24 hours after which subsequent coats may be applied. 1-2 coats of wax in general are recommended for low traffic items / surfaces and 2-3 coats for higher use surfaces such as bedside table tops. The wax will continue to cure and harden for up to 30 days so please be gentle with you finish.

Do not scrub a waxed surface with abrasives or strong detergents. Wipe clean using a soft damp cloth. If any areas are high use and are subject to wear and frequent wiping, additional coats of wax may be required periodically at user discretion. Please note a wax finish is viewed as an ‘antique’ finish thus waxed surfaces should be treated with care and protected from water rings, hot cups and abrasive / sharp items to protect scratching and scuff marks.
