Transforming old unloved pieces of furniture into fresh new pieces that can be given life and new homes and bring people joy is so very rewarding. I have to say that most of the pieces I have sold over the last few years have obviously been loved and made their way into new homes where hopefully they are bringing their new surrounds life and joy to the owners. I must admit that I often find myself thinking about a piece that sold months ago and wondering who it went to and what it looks like now. This is the very conversation that I was having with my husband only a few nights ago about one of our favorite pieces that we worked on, a very old shield front pine side board. You can read about its makeover HERE ..
This piece was so old and sad when we picked it up but the character it had was priceless and the transformation really turned out fantastic. We very nearly decided to keep it!!!
Alas we didn’t have room for the piece and decided to sell it. At the time I had a shop stall in a market complex so this treasure went there to find its new home. After a few months it did sell. Being a stall, I wasn’t there to personally sell it or to meet its new family. Many months had passed since and that brings me to a few nights ago when my husband and I were discussing the above piece and wondering where it ended up. It is funny how things turn out, yesterday I got a message on my business facebook page and as I began to read the message my heart started pounding. It turns out that the new owner of the above piece had decided to take a photo of the pieces that she had purchased from our little stall and to send me some pictures and a lovely message telling me how much she loves them. I was absolutely thrilled to see pictures of the pieces in their new home and to hear how much they are appreciated. I was actually quite touched that despite many months passing the new owner appreciated them enough to bother taking photos and finding my business online so that she could contact me with the pictures. Here are the pictures and messages I received ..
The message read “We purchased the cupboard above which is now a part of my family. I am originally from country Victoria and enjoy my baking. So this is my baking cupboard. My Mum was a great baker, who died when I was six years old. I have an original recipe book of hers stored in the cupboard and I hope that it continues to be part of my adult and teenage daughters history. Love your work and hope to get to your new shop one day soon. Thought you might like a photo of what it looks like now.”
“Hi again, we purchased this cupboard awhile ago. It is now part of our family photo corner. Really love your work, and I thought you would like to see how great it looks in our home. Keep up the great work”
I can’t even describe the smile the above photos and messages brought to my face. I have to say a huge thank you to Roslyn for not only buying and loving the above pieces but for taking the time and effort to send me photos and such kind messages letting me not only know where these pieces ended up but how loved they are. So thank you Roslyn you truly made my weekend 🙂
