A few weeks ago this lonely and very dated side table was donated to us for a makeover, we were super happy to save it from the landfill pile.
I wanted to give this piece a fresh new face so to speak and make it look more contemporary and modern with a rustic twist.
The first thing I did was remove the acrylic resin molding off the middle drawer. The hardware was in good condition so I decided to keep it. I sanded the top back and oiled it with linseed oil. I grabbed a packet of Sweet Pickins Milk Paint in one of her new colours called Zinc and gave the piece 2 coats. The colour had great coverage.
The piece looked very plain so I pushed the drawers together and grabbed my newest stencil which is a A3 silhouette of a Stags head and stenciled it across them.
Then I gave the piece a sand to knock off any chipping milk paint and sealed it with wax. After replacing the hardware I stood back and had a look.
And I LOVE IT!! The combination of the colour, the stencil and the wood top, its a real winner and a huge difference for the better!!
The rustic chippy detail just gives this piece so much character! Pretty good for a little side table headed for the dumpster 🙂
