Who doesn’t love a good farmhouse style makeover? and what better piece to give a farmhouse face lift than a hutch!!
I have to admit that I have been super keen to do a hutch makeover for a long time but have never found one I liked in the price range that I am after. Then I became a Sweet Pickins Milk Paint stockist and I needed a piece to become a paint display station so the hunt for a hutch became serious. And then one afternoon my wonderful husband calls me to tell me he just bought me a piece of furniture … and lo and behold, it’s a hutch!! 😀
The hutch was a nice smaller than usual sized nicely built piece, made well out of nice wood, rather plain and the perfect candidate for a farmhouse makeover to become my display piece.
So all that was left to do was decide what colour to paint it!! I am definitely biased when it comes to colour preference and its probably safe to say that I am obsessed with all kinds of shades of blue. So for this piece I put aside my obsession and decided to go with an authentic green milk paint from Sweet Pickins range called Artichoke and paired it with a cream colour called Creamy of course!
I lightly sanded the piece before painting as some areas were rather shiny and I knew that the milk paint would resist those areas and probably get a little too chippy. After that I got to the fun bit and got painting. Once painted I distressed the piece and then sealed it with clear wax and really grunged it up with Sweet Pickins dark wax, I made a glaze with the wax by mixing it with turps which gave me more open time to work with it and also gave me even colouring.
And here she is 😀
Time for a little styling …
Some lovely little patches of chipping happened on the cabinet doors
I was so excited with how the hutch turned out, I decided it would be the perfect time to have a bit of a Sweet Pickins photo shoot with some of my stock … and of course what fun would it be if i didn’t share some of the shots
This is the beautiful green that I used to paint on this piece, and how cute are these sweet little packets of milk paint goodness!!
The hutch is the perfect backdrop / display stand for the sweet pickins range … and the little brown paper bags look great against the green and cream backdrop!
And last but not least is this pic of a sample bag of our most popular colour in the sweet pickins range, its a gorgeous blue called sweetie jane … this colour when mixed reminds me of the colour of tropical ocean … the perfect blue green!!
